Dungeons & Dragons therapy is a clinically grounded, creative approach that uses collaborative roleplaying as a vehicle for emotional growth. Guided by a licensed behavioral health professional, the game becomes a space to practice real skills — communication, resilience, identity exploration — through the safety of a character and a story.
The fictional distance is actually the point. When something feels too big to say directly, sometimes saying it through your character first is exactly what opens the door.
Lifelong Access has partnered with Swift Mind Care to bring you a one-day immersive retreat designed specifically for adults. No D&D experience required — just a willingness to show up and roll the dice.
Before the Retreat — Your Character Starts Here
Before retreat day, every participant goes through a brief pre-screening with one of our clinicians. This isn't a gatekeeping step — it's how we make sure the experience is genuinely built around you.
During your pre-screen, you'll build your character together with a clinician's guidance. Your class, backstory, strengths, and quirks are crafted intentionally — so the adventure ahead has real meaning for you specifically.
By the time you walk in, you already know who you are in this world. The party just hasn't met you yet.
The Real Loot —
What You Actually Walk Away With
🎭 Emotional Expression — Roleplay creates a low-pressure space to access and name feelings that are harder to reach in a traditional setting.
🤝 Real Connection — Shared adventure builds genuine bonds fast — the kind that doesn't happen over small talk.
🧠 Self-Discovery — Character choices often reflect parts of ourselves we haven't had language for yet. The game has a way of surfacing that.
🛡 Resilience in Action — Every challenge your character faces is practice: problem-solving, flexibility, trusting yourself under pressure.
💬 Communication Skills — Negotiating with NPCs, listening to your party, advocating for your character — these translate directly to real life.
✨ Plain Old Fun — Growth doesn't have to be heavy. Some of the most meaningful breakthroughs happen while you're laughing at a nat 20.
Your Epic Adventure
Participants are encouraged to arrive early to settle in between 9 and 9:30 - we begin promptly at 9:45.
Here's a rough map of the day.
Your Dungeon Master — a licensed clinician — guides you through each phase, weaving therapeutic intention into every encounter.
Hour 1 — Gather the Party
Introductions, grounding, and orientation to the world. You'll build your character and meet your fellow adventurers to settle into the space together over continental breakfast.Hours 2 & 3 — Enter the Story
The quest begins. The narrative unfolds through your choices, your party dynamics, and the world your DM-clinician has shaped around your collective needs.Lunch Break — Rest & Reflect
A 30+ minute structured pause to eat (basic lunch will be provided), breathe, and check in. Your clinician facilitates a brief group reflection — connecting in-game moments to real-world insights over lunch and encouraging some movement outside.Hours 5 & 6 The Turning Point
The story goes into its second challenge. Our Quest becomes richer, character dynamics surface, and the therapeutic work often finds its most engaging and fun expression as we expand connections and have increased heart points.Hour 7 — The Return
Every great adventure ends with integration and a “happy hour”.
The group closes this chapter of our story together, celebrates what was discovered, and carries something real home. Participants celebrate a together and are encouraged to go into the world and continue their adventure with what hopefully become some new friends.
Session will close at 4pm with a short social afterward - participants are encouraged to continue the socializing afterward at dinner/happy hour in town - keep the connection going!
